General Cycling / Helmet or No Helmet?
Last post by Shawn - Feb 06, 2026, 04:00 PM
How do you feel about helmets when cycling?

Some people are against wearing helmets and believe it is their choice whether to wear them. However, some believe helmets should be legally required.

Where do you stand on this issue and why?

Cycling Training / How often do you ride?
Last post by Shawn - Feb 06, 2026, 03:57 PM
How often are you riding your bike a week?

I usually try to get out once a week when it's colder, as long as there isn't any snow and ice everywhere (like right now), and I'll ride 2 to 5 days a week when it's warm.

Once it warms up a bit, I'm hoping to aim for about 3,000 miles this year (or more)!

So, how often do you get to ride?

Cycling Gear and Apparel / Cycling shoes
Last post by Shawn - Feb 06, 2026, 03:55 PM
Do you all use cycling-specific shoes?

They have "clipless" even though it sort of clips into pedals.

And they have flats which are just regular shoes but made flat for regular pedals.

What cycling shoes do you use?

If clipless, do you use SPD (popular on gravel and mountain bikes) or LOOK/Shimano-style pedals (popular on road bikes)?

Do you think clipless is the way to go or are you not a part of that team?

I love gravel bikes.

I feel like I'm going on an adventure every time I get on my gravel bike.

Plus, it feels like a road bike, but you can still go places confidently that you can't go on a road bike in most cases.

How about you all? What type of bike is your favorite out of all of your choices? Why?

Welcome to Member Cycling Links — a free place to share cycling-related websites that are genuinely useful to beginner cyclists and the cycling community. To keep this section helpful (and not a spam pit), please follow these guidelines.

1) Cycling-Related Only

Links must be clearly related to cycling, such as:

Bike shops, local cycling clubs, group rides

Trail/route resources, maps, cycling tourism

Cycling blogs, YouTube channels, podcasts

Gear reviews, training resources, safety resources

Cycling events, races, charity rides

If it's not cycling-related, it doesn't belong here.

2) No Spam or "Link Dumping"

One-line posts like "Check this out" with a link may be removed.

Don't post the same site repeatedly or across multiple threads.

Don't use this board as your personal ad billboard.

3) Add Value in Every Post (Required Format)

When sharing a link, include:

Website name

What it is (1–3 sentences)

Who it helps (beginners, MTB riders, road riders, etc.)

Any cost (free, paid, membership required)

Your connection (optional but encouraged: "this is my site" / "I'm not affiliated")

Example:
Site: ExampleBikeShop.com
What it is: Local shop in Carbondale offering tune-ups and group rides.
Best for: New riders who need help with bike fit and maintenance.
Cost: Free to browse, services paid.
Affiliation: Not affiliated.

4) Affiliate Links and Tracking Links

No raw affiliate links in this section.

If you're recommending a product/resource, link to a normal page (non-affiliate) when possible.

If a link contains heavy tracking, it may be removed.

5) Self-Promotion Rules (Allowed, With Limits)

You can share your own cycling site/channel if:

It's cycling-focused

You follow the required format above

You don't post it repeatedly

You participate elsewhere on the forum (not just links)

Blatant promo accounts will be removed.

6) No Illegal, Harmful, or Sketchy Content

No links to:

piracy, cracked software, stolen content

doxxing, harassment, or hate content

scams, fake giveaways, "too good to be true" offers

If it feels shady, it's gone.

7) Keep It Organized

Use clear titles: "[RESOURCE] Beginner Bike Fit Calculator" or "[SHOP] ABC Cycles – Murphysboro, IL"

If you're sharing a local business, include the general location (city/state) but don't post addresses unless it's already publicly listed on the site.

8 ) Moderation

We may edit, move, or remove link posts to keep this section useful and safe. Repeated rule-breaking can lead to restrictions.
